My theory is they caught it from the dominance of foreign migrants, unsure of their English. It used to be confined to Northern Queensland under the influence of the Kanaka canefield laborers, but now its endemic throughout the society. And it drives me mad!

What are the surrounding temples in vijayawada?
I am going to vijayawada along with my friend on 8th or 9th jan and I would like to know surrounding temples near vijayawada apart from eluru chinna tirupathi, amaravathi, kanaka durga temples... Kindly do let me know any more temples near by vijayawada which I can visit during my trip. thanks.
Answers expected from only those who know.
Answer: Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh is home to three distinctive temples - the Kanakadurga temple, the Malleswara temple and the Vijayeswara temple. Near Vijayawada is the hill temple complex of Mangalagiri dedicated to Narasimha.
Historically the Malleswara temple goes back to the period of the Tribhuvana Malla, a Chalukyan ruler of the 10th century CE.
The Malleswara temple enshrines a Shivalingam believed to have been held in worship by the sage Agastya. Legend also has it that this temple was established by the Pandava prince Yuddhishtra. It is believed that the Lakshmi Narasimha temple at the foothills of Mangalagiri nearby was also built by Yuddhishtra the Pandava prince, and that the Vijayeswara temple was founded by Arjuna.
It is believed that Agastya worshipped Shiva at this temple as Jayasena, while Arjuna worshipped him as Malleswara.
The Indrakila hill in Vijayawada is said to be associated with the legend of Arjuna (Vijaya) obtaining the Pasupataastram from Shiva. The Vijayeswara temple has this and many other such legends illustrated in stone sculpture.
The Kanakadurga temple is a well visited temple in Vijayawada enshrining the Chandi or the Durga aspect of Shakti. The spiritual leader Aadi Sankara is believed to have visited this shrine and installed a Sree Chakra.

What is the best way to learn about Hawaii quickly?
Im working on a comic and blending two different cultures together- that of the Wild West, and that of Hawaii and Polynesia.
I need to learn about the more popular aspects of Hawaii and its surroundings in order to do the comic- such as tikis, hula, and the overall atmosphere and how the place looks and feels.
Answer: Well, having lived in Hawaii for nearly ten years now, I don't know if you'll really be able to accomplish your goal without coming to Hawaii. However, I would suggest that you concentrate on one or two specific places, like the island of Molokai or Upcountry Maui. That might make it easier for you to get an idea, since the various neighborhoods of Hawaii are so very different.
You should also know that the very word "tiki" has been used to stand for the mental image visitors have in their heads when they come to Hawaii. In fact, we sometimes use the term "Tiki Culture" to stand for things that have more in common with those tourist mental images than they do with authentic Kanaka Maoli history, Local culture, or the experience of people in Hawaii and their kupuna.
You will want to research the paniolo culture in Hawaii. There's actually a radio station on Maui that plays a mix of country, paniolo, and Hawaiian music, and you can listen over the internet from the first link below.
I would also encourage you to find a halau hula (hula school) in your area to learn about Hawaiian culture. Halau often give instruction in chanting, mythology, language, lei-making, and culture in the course of teaching hula.

How did the Dasara holiday start?
What is the origin of the Dasara holiday? Can anyone explain to me the history of this hioliday?
Answer: When it was first organised in 1987, the festival was called Kanaka-Purandara Utsav. The next year the cultural festival had to be cancelled on the second day following the death of the Minister Abdul Nazir Sab. In 1989, the Congress came to power and did not organise the festival for various reasons, including natural calamities.
It was Mr. Prakash who infused life into the cultural festival after his party came back to power in 1994. It went on uninterrupted for five years until the Janata Dal lost power to the Congress in 1999.
Though the Government continued to organise the event, there were no star performers. As a result, the prestigious cultural festival, which had seen performances by artistes of international repute, was reduced to a district-level event.

What are some Success, Failures, and Consequences that happened in Hawaii after annexation?
Im doing a History Day project thats due next week monday. Please if you could, answer this question.
Answer: After the annexation of Hawaii in 1898, an order was given to prepare Honolulu for warehouses, wharves, and coal sheds. There was also an order for the survey of Pearl Harbor. “Naval Station, Hawaii”, which was to be located in Honolulu, was commissioned in 1899. More land was designated for naval use, and the land around Pearl Harbor was under acquisition for naval use. By 1940 over $100,000,000 had been used on the improvement of this establishment.
After the annexation of Hawaii, almost 2 million acres that belonged to the Hawaiian Kingdom was set into a trust to be held by the US until some future date, this fact alone shows how the US knew they were in the wrong. These lands were called ceded lands.
Recently the Hawaii Supreme Court made a landmark decision on these so called ceded lands. They ruled that the State of Hawaii has no right to sell these lands, as they are still in a trust. Furthermore, they recognized that Hawaii was overthrown illegally. This case, OHA v The State of Hawaii, is on its way to the Supreme Court of Hawaii, where their decision will cause controversy whatever the ruling may be.
For Hawaii, they got the protection and recognition of being an American territory. Now the U.S. Government would protect the Hawaiian citizens from any foreign countries. Also, now sugar plantation owners would not have to pay a sugar tariff on imported sugar because it was not considered imported any longer. This caused an economic boom in Hawaii. However, for these benefits, the Kanaka Maoli had given up their land and along with it, their culture.
Now that Hawaii was a part of the United States, its resource of sugar, as well as many other resources, could now be used to benefit the United States economy. Furthermore, Hawaii could be used as a strategic military position. After all, it is is the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Even though the United States government didn't give up much in return for Hawaii at the time, it has slowly been repaying the Kanaka Maoli. For example, in 1983, the centennial of the overthrow of the monarchy, Bill Clinton signed the Apology Resolution. This document was a written apology from the United State's Government to the Kanaka Maoli for the overthrow. Also, in 2005, Senator Daniel Akaka proposed a bill to create a separate tribe of Kanaka Maoli that would work alongside the United States government to settle land disputes. This bill, name the Akaka Bill, would also create reservations were Kanaka Maoli could choose to live. However, the bill is still making its way through the Unites State's government.
The Hawaiian language was banned from schools after the Annexation of Hawaii by the United States and thus the voices of at least 90% of the people sent to Kalaupapa were further isolated from the historical record.
After the annexation of Hawaii by the United States in 1898, Haole businessmen shifted their investments from coffee production to sugar production as sugar prices soared. In Kona, the land was too steep and the water not plentiful enough for large sugar plantations to thrive. The coffee industry was near collapse due to an over supply on the world market. In response to the decline W.W. Brunner, a Haole planter, subdivided his plantation into five acre parcels and leased it to tenant farmers. Brunner furnished housing and other necessities and received one-third the crop as rent. Others soon followed his example. The change from large plantation system to small family-run farms revolutionized the Kona coffee industry and kept it alive.
What are the lyrics to this song by Melveen Leed?
What are the lyrics to Melveen Leeds song "Walk through Paradise/Kanaka Wai Wai". I know that it is an english version of the song Kanaka Wai Wai. Ive looked all over google search and yahoo search. I cant seem to find it. I really need the english lyrics, not so much the verse but mostly the chorus. heres what I know so far:
"Let me walk through paradise with you Lord.
Take my hand and lead me there.
All my earthly treasures, I would gladly give.
Teach me how to love and how to share.
Greed and lust and vanity were mine Lord,
til I found your love divine.
Now Im on my knees,
I pray I can find the way.
Let me walk through paradise with you.
Oh My Lord, My Savior ..."
And that is all I know.
Could you plreas help me out?
Answer: I had the same problem as you did. Google and Yahoo search came up with no lyrics.
But I did find a site where you can download the song for free and perhaps you could listen to it and get the lyrics that way.
Here is a link to the site:
I know nothing about this site whether it is legal or not. This song dates back to 1975 and it may not be copyrighted. So it may be safe to download it. My McAfee Site Advisor says it is a safe site.
I'm not sure if this is the English version but it is by your artist and has the exact title.
I hope in some way this helps.
You can go to this site and request the lyrics for the song:

Im just wondering...why do migrants to Hawaii always end up leaving after a year or two?
I have been here for a while now. I have no intention of leaving and am from California. I have made friends with many locals, even the Kanaka ones and yet...I always see so many other haole mahalinis talking about leaving.
why? why do they always end up leaving? also..are there any Haoles/Mahalinis who like it here like I do and made local friends?
*that is, Malahini--lol Im tired. my mistake.
Answer: There are several reasons. One is the cost of living here. It's freakin expensive and jobs don't pay that much, therefore many people struggle. You can live comfortably on a certain amount of income on the mainland, but that same income here will barely get you by. People need to decide if warm weather and beautiful beaches are worth the day-to-day struggles of just living.
Another reason is the culture shock. Living in Hawaii is as close to living in a foreign country that you can get without actually living in a foreign country. Lots of mainlander haoles just can't get comfortable with being a minority here or having to put up with the racial tensions between them and the locals. Even wealthy people will leave because of this.
Another reason is the so-called "rock fever". I never suffered from it but know of many who have. Hawaii has over 2,000 miles of ocean between it and the mainland, so you can't just jump in your car and take a weekend road trip or go visit family. Also traveling to and from the mainland is expensive, so some people will do it less which causes them to miss their families more and more.
I guess you could add the tourism issue that another person mentioned. It kind of bugged me at first but I got over it quick. Actually, I like the tourists because hot chicks spend weeks getting into "bikini" shape and show up looking their best!!
how white men are called after living and intergrate in Hawaiian life?
I know there is a different name than HAOLE for white people living in Hawaii, embracing and respecting the KANAKA MAOLI tradition, learning the culture and history of Hawaii. I would like to be that guy someday !
